Ive noticed Aldi are selling 900g of mince for £2.40-its their value range and called something like "Essentials". It doesnt look too fatty and is a good price-I wondered if anyone had tried it?

I think the label will give the fat content so you can compare - I don't think there's much between different price points or retailers beyond that. At the end of the day, mince is generally made of 'what's left' when the other cuts have been taken
To be honest, depending on what I am cooking, I sometimes prefer to buy a mince with a bit of fat as this gives more flavour to the dish. Just cook it, let it cool and then skim off the fat - although I appreciate that takes a bit more planning. Sometimes, I find the very lean steak mince can end up a bit hard and tasteless in, say a bolognese or shepherd's pie.0 -
The label says something like "no more than 28% fat" BUT it looks nowhere near that fatty. I bought some cheaper mince from Tesco earlier this year that was really fatty,(and I dont mind a bit of fat). That mince was about 20% fat, but was much paler than the Aldi mince. Im thinking theyre using the 28% as a maximum. I may give it a try next time Im there.0

I buy Aldi mince. I divide the carton into 3 different meals for the family. When I cook it I dry fry it slowly with onions and then drain off the fat before adding in the ingrediants. The other week I had to but Asda Lean Mince because Aldi were out of mince, the Asda mince was disgusting full of gristle and not as nice to eat. Aldi meat is always okay when I buy it apart from chicken fillets which tend to go off a lot quicker than the sell by date on the packet.0

The Aldi mince is a bit higher in fat - I usually find I have to drain off a tablespoon or so - but, it doesnt seem to have as much gristle. As other major supermarkets! I bought some Adsa mince as I was in there getting a DVD and wished I had got some of the Aldi mince out of the freezer for supper. It went grey not brown and frankly, tasted bland. I had to add an oxo cube to get any flavour to my bol sauce.0

I would rather have LESS of a steak mince \ low fat mince than budget mince.
What's the point of buying cheaper mince and then having to throw the fat away???
Also your arteries will thank you!!0
