Final approval from head office

Our mortgage application with Yorkshire Building Society has been completed and has gone to head office for final approval. Just starting to get a bit nervous as were hoping to exchange on the 4th of nov. Is this likely to be just a formality? Is there anything else they do differently on this final check? Obviously the branch has been happy with the application apart from she was trying to push us into taking out mortgage protection as I only have 8 weeks sick pay from work. Could that be a reason head office might turn us down?

No. And if there's been an implication that you won't get the mortgage if you don't have the cover make sure you complain.
  • hi marshio,

dont worry, you dont need to take any of the policies that YBS tries to push at you.

we successfully received a full mortgage offer from YBS eventhough we turned their building and content, life, critical illness and redundacy / PPI insurances.

we got other quotes of each of the above mentioned insurances cheaper elsewhere and gave YBS copies of them stating that we'll be going with these since they are cheaper.

    good luck.

Has your solicitor commenced working on your purchase yet? As 4th November for exchange is impossible if not.

Yes everything is done so just waiting for mortgage offer and we can exchange. Think were about 5 weeks now from when we applied, it seems excess to me but I've not done this before so don't know how long it should take.
  • Well done on near-abouts reaching exchange!
