I'll add this to the existing thread on buying half a pig so that you can see more ideas

I think I might buy half a pig soon. My butcher sells only free range pork and it costs £1.27 lb for a whole pig (90-110lb) or £1.33lb for half a pig (45-55lb).
Do you reckon you get half the offal too?0 -
I paid £80 or £90 for half a pig, raised by one of my son's friends organically on his grandad's farm. I received several joints plus chops and sausages. I opted not to have the head or the offal as nobody here would eat it!
I think it worked out a good deal cheaper than the supermarket, there was a lot of pork! And everyone who has eaten it says it tastes so much better, even the kids' dad who doesn't really like pork enjoyed it and said it tasted like meat his gran used to cook!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -

Usually yes, unless you decline to have it. But check. There's practically no market for offal at the moment - "unfashionable" apparently  So the butcher would probably get very little for it so has no real motive to sell it separately.Warning ..... I regularly buy half a lamb and am currently clearing the freezer to order half a pig, although my supplier charges £85 for a half, so you have got a really good deal if half a pig is priced at £40. They joint it and bag it ready to freeze and my order includes offal too.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

DH has decided its a good idea to buy half a pig and maybe a full lamb.
The half a pig is going to cost £80 & the lamb £90 just wondering if anyone else buys their meat this way and if so do you think its good value for money and how many joints roughly will we get from them?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm really torn with this one cos its such a huge amount of money to spend but then I'd love a fully stocked freezer.0 -
Sounds like a decent price to me
I am hopeless at visualising how much freezer room they take up I'm afraid! Do you get a choice of which joints/how it's cut?0 -
The butchers have said they will joint them to whatever cuts we request.0

I buy all my meat like this and it works out well for us. The good thing is you can cut the meat to the size that suits your family0
