I'm feeling a bit rubbish and a bit like what's the blimming point.
I haven't worked since being made redundant at the very beginning of 2009, so nearly 3 years. I stayed at home with my son as he needed me at home not at work but now I really need to get to work.
I've been applying since the very end of the summer holidays for all sorts of jobs, some I have experience for, some I don't, but I do work hard, learn quickly, am a stickler for punctuality adn would have to be virtually dead to phone in sick, I just wish someone would give me a chance.
I'm applying for about 3 a day so I've applied for lots and can't even get a blinking Christmas temp job
. I've had 2 interviews out of loads of applications, 1 emailed me a week later to tell me I hadn't been successful, the other called me a few days afterwards to double check hours I was available but that was over 2 weeks ago and I've heard nothing since.
I'm applying for loads of school positions, there seems to be a new 1 every week that I could do, but I'm even losing heart with those now. The application forms are identical and now I wish I could just fill in one form, send it to the city council and apply for multiple jobs with one form.
Then as for asda, well they've got me really riled. Their application takes an age to do first time round. I did it a month or so ago, you have tests, questionnaires allsorts to do on it, takes about an hour and a half. I put in multiple applications as the 3 local ones all put up vacancies on the same day, it was a total of about 9 positions that I applied for. So yesterday I receive an email from them saying that due to a high volume of applicants there was a problem with their server and my applications didn't go through . But it's OK because it won't affect me applying in the future (you can only apply to asda once every 6 months). Well it would be OK, only those jobs are now closed and there are no others locally that I can do, so it's not fine is it!
I also applied for a waitressing job recently at a local restaurant. I've got loads of waitressing experience, mostly in a similar type of restaurant, very busy and so I thought they'd be really interested especially with Christmas coming up. I thought they'd want to get someone in who's not going to be phased when it's busy and who can handle it and give really good service, but apparently I'm not what they want as since giving my application in they've put the vacancy up on the JCP site.
I know it's only been 2 months and that's nothing compared to what some have been applying, but I can't help feeling down over it all. I feel rejected and just wish someone would give me a chance and let me show them what I can do. I think what makes it worse is the time of year, they will have all filled their Christmas vacancies by now or will be in the next couple of weeks so there'll be nothing available and then in January it's always slow so there's another few months where I'll be getting knock backs (well I'm not even getting knock backs, just no acknowledgement at all (no I don't expect them to reply to every candidate, but getting knocked back at interview isn't as bad as getting no interview at all))
Then we look around at the neighbours, most of whom own their houses, most of whom don't work or work part time. DH is out at work 6 days a week. Of the few who do work down this road he's 1st out, last home, as far as we can tell the only one who works weekends. We have no chance of owning a house (not unless we can save up at least £100,000 deposit for a little 2 up 2 down) have no family life thanks to DHs hours and kind of think, hey sod it, lets just live a life on the dole, we get time together, get the rent paid, and no stresses of work/looking for work. But that's not us.
I can't help feeling so down and frustrated and useless. I think I need a kick up the bum and a bit of inspiration or something.

Well it IS very hard to find work right now, but you will get it eventually. You have to be ridiculously obsessive and persistent about it.
Keep at it, keep your chin up, and don't for a second ever feel it's personal or get down.
Oh - and forget making judgements about your neighbours - you have no idea what is happening behind their front door and I can bet their lives are not as peachy as you may feel!

I recently lost my job a few weeks ago, and ive applied for probably 30 jobs since then over various websites. I have had a few phone calls, and a few emails saying no thanks. Apart from that zippo. I understand your frustration and Ive only been at it for 2 weeks! Ive 18 years experience in retail at management level, but yet Im not what retail shops are `looking for' apparently. I dont get it, do they even bother reading the application forms?
Keep your head up, your not the only one in this spot. Keep positive even when its tough, you could be in a worse situation.0 -
I feel you pain and just wanted to say you are not alone.

It's very baad out there at the moment and you're in the same boat as millions of others. All you can do is keep you head up, plug away, and eventually there will be light at the end of the tunnel.0

By the time you have spent looking for jobs, You could have started someting for yourself you don't necessarily need money, Just be proactive abd creative - Coming from experience.
All The Best anyhow:beer:Thomson 757 Man0 -
It's only bad out there because the Jobcentre, Employers, And those 'Silly dilly' employment recruitment agencies don't communicate with each other, They are either too busy sat 'Chatting' about Drivel or mashed up with their daily workload, Or their beloved computers/mobile phones have crashed AGAIN,
Some may seem to aspire to not have done a complete day's work !!
While MANY innocent people like the OP are banging on the doors !!Thomson 757 Man0 -
OP get someone to look at your CV. if you have experience in the kind of jobs you are applying for but are not getting a sniff of response, it's time to rethink the CV.0

Thanks. I won't say I haven't thought of it. The long term dream is to work for ourselves. I've had ideas, but when I've looked into it they've been a bit rubbish. My skills and experience are all in areas that need a lot of money to start up. We are looking at starting up a business with DHs skills and knowledge but we can't afford for him to give up work to do it. As soon as I've got a job then he'll be going part time to get our own business up and running. I know it sounds defeatest saying I've got no skills for my own business, but I really don't think I have.BYALPHAINDIA wrote: »By the time you have spent looking for jobs, You could have started someting for yourself you don't necessarily need money, Just be proactive abd creative - Coming from experience.

A good example of this is a JCP advert. DH was out of work for a bit recently, he was checking the JCP site daily. He phoned up about a job advertised that had been put on that day, only to be told that the position had been filled the previous week and the JCP should have been taking it down not putting it up.OP get someone to look at your CV. if you have experience in the kind of jobs you are applying for but are not getting a sniff of response, it's time to rethink the CV.
I already have, well actually it was a CV workshop type thing that the council run that helped me do it. They've helped me in the past and my CV is basically just like the examples that they use just with my experience instead of the examples. I really don't think it's my actual CV. I have a lot of gaps (which are accounted for) but I think my cv looks crap because of it so I wonder what an employer must think. Unfortunately there's not a lot I can do about that.Clean credit file:12 mthsCar loan: FREE! :jTHE PLAN: 1.Pay off debt £8808.42(£3254.45, £1570.32, £2698.33, £0:dance:, £1000, £285.32) 2.Save monthly for Christmas/insurance etc £150 per month 3.Save for emergencies /£1500 4.Save for our B&B £????depends which one takes our fancy

((HUGS)) OP.
Just a thought, but what about doing some voluntary work to get you out of the house and keep your sanity intact for a bit?
JCP has a list of volunteering opportunities, and you will have something recent to show on your CV.
At least it will show that you are willing to do something even if it's unpaid...it will also fill a gap in your CV.
Good luck!
