Mini Ebay business? Niche?

Hi all

Recently i've been toying with the idea of starting a mini Ebay business to boost my income. Im already in a full time job and don't plan on turning into a powerseller Ebay legend!

Im struggling with coming up with a niche for my idea, i know full well that any electronics are out of the window due to big competitors and i haven't got a huge amount of space for inventory, so cant be doing furniture ;)

From what i've read it's best when niches are something you're passionate about, im passionate about sports and martial arts just to give you a small idea.

Any possible advice i could be given would be hugely appreciated, im young, dumb and a newbie to ebay :)

Cheers all

  • Ebay has changed alot over the years, as it has become more and more popular, the profits to be made have decreased because of the intense competition among other things.

I would keep it a mini business and just go with what propducts you feel would sell, do some research on your target market also etc.

Martial Arts is a good place to start. Imo its a growing market with lots of people taking up the sport for fitness, wellbeing and also self defence. You have the likes of mma and ufc aswell, which i think is becoming more widespread.

Anyway, thats just my 2pence worth, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I worked with someone who was an avid hangglider. He sourced some equipment from France and would regularly sell them on Ebay to make around £ 100 - £ 200 a month.

That's the kind of niche you need to be looking at.

I strongly urge you to familiarise yourself with Google Keyword Tool (google it). You type in a keyword and it tells you approximately how many people are searching for that term each month.

Also check out "Google Trends UK" which shows which searches are hot.

Finally, I think Ebay have something called "Pulse" which shows you the hottest items being searched for.

    Good luck
