    Speak to Shelter or CAB. Or a solicitor.

    One option to consider is writing back to them saying that as the debt is joint and they've accepted her ex-partner's offer that's the end of the matter. But take proper advice first.
  • Thanks for the reply. We have gone down the Shelter/Cab route and not got any useful advice from them really. Their only suggestion was to bankrupt herself due to her inability to pay but clearly we want to avoid that if possible. NR know she may consider bankruptcy and they don't want her to do this (presumably because they would get nothing).

    Solicitor is not an option, she just can't afford it and any money she borrows will need to be for the settlement.
