Hi ppl
just a quick question. Im a first time buyer and ive had my mortgage offer and just waiting for a completion date. Got a call from my solicitor the other day asking for proof of my deposit. Is this normal? ive been into see them and dropped off the relevent information. when i asked why this is needed he replied stating the lender needed this information. But the lender asked for this information before they gave the offer and i gave this to them at that time. Ive not got nothing to hide but just curious on why the lender would ask again. if he stated he needed it for checks on money laundering then i would have not questioned it. also do i need to sign and return the offer letter? no where on the letter it asks for a signiture. the mortgage is through halifax. any advice on this would be great. thanks

Halifax don't need any signatures. By drawing down the funds you are agreeing to the terms.
Solicitors can ask for proof of deposit if they so wish either to satisfy themselves, or the lender, or both, that everything is above board. If you haven't anything to hide don't worry about it.0 -
It sounds more like the solicitor (either yours or the sellers), is worried that you don't have the money and is using the lender as an excuse."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0

Thank you ppl for the quick response.
No I dont have anything to hide And everything is above board on my end. We have provided the documents the very next day. I'm just tired of waiting now. It's been a long winded process and I just want it all over with. They gave me another couple of weeks now after asking for this whereas before they said we have completed all the searches and we should have a completion date by next week. This has been the most stresful experience ever.0 -
