    Best of luck!

It's brilliant! I haven't actually done any work as such since the beginning of September but I still get paid every month and will continue to do so, even if I never, ever do any more work! :j

How?! Surely it is commission based, and you have to sell (ie work) to get commission?

MLM/Direct Sales can provide ''residual/passive income'', i.e. an income that will come to you repeatedly month after month after you do something once. Think royalty income, such as that is paid to a book author. He/she writes the book once, but he/she earns a percentage of the sale every time a book is sold. Same with songwriting. Paul McCartney is still earning a small bonus per record on songs he wrote nearly 50 years ago!

  • I'm a female rep and don't have any objection to male reps. If the advertisng was the other way about (men only) I'm sure there would be outrage lol.

Yes it is commission based. Depends on what products and services the MLM company is selling. With the company that I'm with, you see your customer once, the customer proceeds to use the products and services on a daily basis and I get paid every month based on the usage of the customer, plus an initial bonus. There is no stock handling involved and no continuous re sale. If a distributor leaves, my income doesn't suffer because their customers remain and continue to use the products etc and I still receive my team income.

Back on topic, my local Avon rep is a man and he's been doing it for about 20 years! He started doing it to help his wife out, (who was an Avon rep) and sadly, she became housebound so he just carried on.

My experience of Avon is that the company don't give a **** about their reps, they were more concerned with the fact that when I signed up, I was aware of my liability to pay their fees. they made sure that the order I placed was below the minimum to receive commission as well.

As A man, my best one has to be Usbourne books, where I was dropped on the basis that being a man, my involvement in the business would cause the business to suffer as it would be assumed that I was a pervert!

    I rest my case

MLM companies have to include a disclaimer that high earnings are not easily achieved. In fact, it is difficult to make a profit out of retailing as you will usually have to pay around £75 to join up and purchase brochures. Typically, sell one product and you will receive about £1.50 so you will have to sell 50 items just to recoup your initial investment. There have been complaints that the structure of some MLM companies is designed to avoid paying commission.

The big money comes via recruiting others to have a commission on their sales, but once the word gets out that it is easy to make big money by recruiting others, guess what they will do

Not sure "easy" is the right word to use, all sides of an MLM Business whether its retailing for income or recruiting for a longer term income does take time, commitment and energy. It is easy in the fact you don't need qualifications, your background doesn't matter and you don't need thousands to start so anyone can start and make an income if they work it.

You're saying that the company asked you to keep your sales down to a level that you wouldn't earn any commission??

MLM companies have to include a disclaimer that high earnings are not easily achieved.

And so they should. If they didn't, companies could go round telling people that making money was easy and required no work, which is untrue, MLM is like any other business, it requires learning skills, hard work and dedication.

In fact, it is difficult to make a profit out of retailing as you will usually have to pay around £75 to join up and purchase brochures. Typically, sell one product and you will receive about £1.50 so you will have to sell 50 items just to recoup your initial investment.

Depends which company you're with I suppose. If you are only selling very cheap small items you will have to sell more to earn your money. This is no different from any other type of business. A shop selling penny sweets will have to sell a lot to earn the same amount of commission a car trader would earn for selling one car.

There have been complaints that the structure of some MLM companies is designed to avoid paying commission.

Really? In all my years in MLM I've never come across this. Can you give us some examples of a)the complaints and b)which companies are designed not to pay commission?

Of course you can earn more by building a sales organisation, in the same way that a chain of a thousand shops will earn more for its owner than a single shop in the High Street.
