E: 10/12? Win a Spanish Gastro Weekend + meal cooking class and more

Details here

To enter here Name the two most popular types of olives from Spain?

The answer is supposed to be on their website but I can't find it!

I can find a list of popular olive varieties...help?

(ps. apologies if I've got the format wrong! I've estimated end date, because they say the draw is happening on 12/12) Let me know if I need to edit!

  • Strangely, I think the answer really is as simple as 'Green and black'! See under 'About' and then 'Types' on their website.
  • but the implication is that there are more than two types...and if it's 'green and black' then, surely that's it?
  • Well it says (my bolding!) -

"Olives are often recognised in two popular forms, green and black.

The colour of an olive doesn’t signify its variety but rather its level of ripeness at the stage when it is plucked from the olive tree. You will also find the fruit in shades of pink and brown, these ‘turning of colour’ olives are mid-way through their life-cycle and offer yet another exciting variation of taste and texture. They also look fantastic served as a snack or in recipes."

ie, you get pink and brown olives too, but green and black are the most popular...?

I think one of the answers is definitely Manzanilla.
Found info here at hub-uk. com/interesting02/spanish-olives.htm
Then i went back to the comp site and saw this sentence on the "about" page:
the most popular Spanish varieties are the Manzanilla, Gordal, Hojiblanca, Carrasqueña and Cacereña.
Green and black aren't actually different types of Olives, just different stages of Olive.
  • the website is badly written and it's hard to know whether they are referring to black/green (I agree, not really a type, but called that in the website) or true 'types' - e.g. manzanilla and queen (which I think are the two most popular spanish eating olives...) especially as queen are not mentioned at all that I can see.
