Good point Val. Got loads of plastic boxes, but I can never find the lids, I swear my cupboard eats them!Stop looking for answers....

Someone mentioned these earlier. Unless you buy a lot of takeaway (not very old style), the cheapest source I've found is Wing Yip - 100 for £7.96. (Link to their online store.) This is cheaper than Lakeland used to be. I use them to store meals when I've cooked in bulk, or bulk cooked dried beans (buy the small ones for those).
OH, and they last for ages (years probably but half my original stash "walked" when we did house renovations. I'll find them in 2020....)

It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

I just hand wash and rinse my bags, whatever has been in them.
Plastic boxes - Lakeland do a really good range called "stack and store" I think. They are well priced and are fine for freezer, dishwasher, microwave etc.
If you are using plastic boxes, always use square or oblong - more economical on space.0 -
hi, same as others, a soapy rinse is fine im sure, if i put in meat, i use the really cheap ones, 100 odd for 50p, if they are posh zip lock ones, i would not store meat in them, but if you want to, then i would allocate some specifically for meat0

Just an idea but i know when the kids have left ice pole wrappers in their pockets they have survived a cycle in the washer, worth a go i suppose but i'm still excluding the raw meat ones here. Must admit i've not been doing this long myself but won't go back now, the idea is genius
I usually wash them in the sink, but I have been known to put plastic bags in the washing machine, they come up fine, I rinse out those plastic disposable piping bags, then put them in the washing machine and they go on for ages! I do rinse the bags when they come out of the machine to make sure there is no detergent residue.0 -

Great! Will try the washing machine out. That would certainly give them a good clean.
PipneyJane Thanks for the link. I always wondered if those takeaway boxes were safe for the microwave - now I know. What I really need is for someone to crawl into the cupboard where I keep my tupperware etc. Its a stupid double depth cupboard which I why I said it eats lids. They must be all at the back somewhere with heaven knows what else I haven't seen for years.
Anyone got a foolproof method for keeping hold of walking lids?
