Have you tried agencies in your line of work? Or specialist job sites?
Do you have a theatre type place nearby? They sometimes need to put actors up temporarily with panto season this might be worth a try, or even a student if you're near a college or a uni, at least a student might go home in the holidays.

The other thing that hasn't been mentioned is business debt line, I think the website is https://www.bdl.org but google just in case. Get all your info together re outstanding debts, money you're expecting etc and phone as early as you can. They're a charity and can advise on your situation and are able to send out some great info.

And maybe grab a housing benefit form, you might be able to get some help with your council tax

recessionhater, I just wanted to say that I SO understand your self-employed tax dilemma as I am in a similar situation - income plunging this year vs. a reasonable year last year and year before and an exceptionally good one the year before that.

I am going to ask my accountant whether I can defer Jan/July 2012 tax bills at all, this seems to be a possibility as far as I understand. could you try doing that?

also know where you are coming from re availability of jobs in your field, or indeed any other - part-time jobs are like gold dust in my neck of the woods.

    good luck!
