Not a laptop or a netbook but it's £50! Ideal gift

Hi. I came across this.....

http://www.tjhughes.co.uk/fcp/product/brands-for-less/Computing/Allfine-Net-Browser/10247

It's a 7" screen compared to a laptop screen at around 15" but I have broken my DC charger port by my laptop falling off the sofa with the charger still inside.

I am going to pay at least £45 to have this fixed.

I am now considering the net browser instead. As long as I can access the internet, I am happy.

I am going to the TJH branch tomorrow to check it out, but hope this helps someone looking for a cheap source to the internet!

Also any feedback from anyone that knows it would be good.

:)

  • I purchased a few of these from China to see what they were like.
They are awful. Avoid at all costs.
They use Windows CE so NO SOFTWARE is compatible with it. You cannot view Facebook or Youtube on it either and because of the low amount of RAM and slow processing speed, internet browsing is incredibly slow.
  • Oh and I forgot to mention, although they have a USB port on them, it won't work with your USB memory sticks, because there isn't power to run them! The port is for USB keyboard or wired mouse ONLY!
    RUBBISH!!

Hi. Thanks for your swift reply.

I am not so keen now. When did you buy your "items" from China?

What are they like for surfing the www only - I mean websites like this one or just to check email or for on-line shopping?

i also got one from china and it was rubbish. it does NOTHING internet will not load as it is just too slow, you can't download anything to veiw web pages it crashes 4/5 times just accessing a basic web page and if you type faster than 10 words a minute it crashes. the charger stopped working after 3 weeks the manufacturer told me that they don't make them anymore so return to seller but as it was from china it would cost me more to send it back. it is no more than an expensive door stop its like trying to use an oven without a heat source. rubbish!!! if you want to buy one then you could but i think you'd end up using it as a doorstop too and deffo regret it, i really did waste of money at the time i really couldn't afford xx

after reading those reviews i wouldnt bother myself as rather pay that bit more and have a workable machine, its sad they dont seem that great for kids either as at that price it would have been great!

Charger ports are a common failure on laptops especially when left unattended with the charger attached which everyone does. If you know how to use a soldering iron (or are friendly with someone who does) its not too hard to find a utube video of someone disassembling a laptop and replacing the part which costs a couple of pound.

As an IT consultant my honest and free opinion is to stay well clear of this item.

You may as well put the money towards an entry level netbook in the xmas sale wars for around £90 - £120 and at least you can run a semi-decent machine more than capable of viewing forums, video sites and social networking sites.

I purchased a couple at the beginning of the year, ended up giving them away for free as I couldn't bring myself to actually charge any money for them, they were that bad!
They are very slow on the internet, purely down to the lack of processing power, remember how long it took to load a webpage when using a 56k Dialup connection? Well this is slower! :rotfl:
As another poster said, save the money for a netbook, will be plenty kicking around for a little more than £100 in the near future.
