Portadown indoor market

So I went to see this place the other week on a Friday and it was to put it kindly, dead!

I want to do a stall on a Saturday but as it would be a non food stall it looks likes it would have to be on a Friday  Can anyone advise me as to if I just went on a bad Friday and people normally go? or would I be best just looking elsewhere for a market stall as tbh, I don't want to give them £14 and spend a day sat about not selling anything!

I'd try car booting round the areas, Portadown is going downhill fast for shopping and foot fall. I haven't used the Market in over a year now, preceding to use far shops out of town.

Can you rent space in the likes of Rushmere, not a unit but you know a cart per say where your guaranteed decent passing trade?

the markets always dead i go on a friday morning if i'm about anyway but only for fruit and veg theres usually hardly anyone there, the carboot sale on a friday night in craigavons suppose to be quite busy tho (i've yet to go the thought of being out after dark in that area fills me with dread even tho you hear of very little trouble around there now)

cathys right it's going downhill fast here, i'd say it will look up if we ever get that asda we've been promised and everything thats suppose to come with it

  • Thanks Cathy, I didn't really think about that, I guess I could contact the shopping centre to find out though :)

am also thinking perhaps I should check out the shambles in armagh, not sure how good it is, but i guess its worth a look as an alternative :)
  • What are you planning to sell? (very nosy I know)

There is a Craft Fairs page on here and a car boot page on facebook that is very good.

For shopping centre mall space you can expect to pay around £100 per day! But there is definitely good footfall - we have been taking part in the farmers markets in Victoria Square, Bow St Mall and now Bloomfields which offer a subsidised rate for hand made items and are all very good
DJWW - cos we won't let it!
  • are you the cake lady that comes to bloomfields?!

It would be surplus Avon stock and Christmas gift sets :)
  • The cake lady who does Bloomfields on a Saturday is Just June - carrot cake to die for!!!

We will be doing cupcakes on a Sunday in Bloomfields and in Bow St Mall on a Saturday and Sunday along with our regular hand painted pottery and chutney/jam

Loads of craft fairs will be happy to take a stall with surplus avon stock, some are strict about hand made items only but lots accept general stalls as well, you should give some a try

    Good luck with it anyway

I went up to the shambles market a couple of weeks ago on a Friday lunch time and there was hardly anybody about, I didn't go into the inside bit though so it may have been busier. I think there are plans to renovate it so it may pick up after that.

Regarding Portadown market, I used to work in the arts centre, 6 or so years ago now, but even then it was very slow - Saturdays are slightly better but IMO it's in the wrong area of town, there just isn't enough footfall there.

The carboot at the drop inn in Craigavon is bunged every week, we go up that road to tescos and the cars are parked all the way down to lidl's so it may get you customers.

Sorry for the long post, hope it helps!
  • The Shambles car boot on Saturday morning last was busy - despite the weather! It's once a fornight, but is in the open. And there is the Tesco car boot next Sunday morning, in the covered part of the carpark, moght be worth investigating...
