The cheaper one I found is out of stock, but found this -
Refurb direct from Apple:

£359 - TCB = 3%0 -

Not sure I'd pay 90% of the original asking price for a second hand electrical item nevermind a computer, even if it has a full warranty. I think if I was convinced to pay £359 I'd pay £399 for a new one with a box etc. Not out of stock ATM.0 -
I've got an ipad2 and love it - my 3 year old niece plays on it with no problems. I've had it about 6 months now and its not scratched at all (I do have a cover though). I use it mainly for browsing the net, and for the kindle (excellent!) - I also buy quite a lot of apps which are good value when you consider how much ds/ps games are. They've recently updated it and added a message app so you can text for free - invaluable with teens.
How old is your daughter? I wouldn't consider it fragile to be honest, if you get her one make sure she has a cover and it will be fine.0 -

If you think the touch is too small then go for an iPad with a griffin case - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004SPVZKW/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0041D0K1Q&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1AB6MFQ8Q6JNK7EM6X1S. And it'll withstand lots of abuse
I have an ipad2 and wouldn't be without it, we also have an hp touchpad which is fine but not a patch on the iPad. My son has just turned 5 and uses the iPad regularly for games and for educational apps, like phonics, which have really helped him. I just have a fake leather folio cover and as my son is generally very careful with it I have no qualms about leaving him with it unsupervised.
I am self employed and as part of my job have quite a lot of technology on the house Includng a desktop and a laptop - since I got the iPad I have rarely used my laptop, and I have been quite
surprised by that.
I agree that giving a child an expensive piece if tech like that seems excessive, but perhaps a solution would be to buy an iPad for the whole family - which will also help in restricting any over use - with a good cover to which your daughter could have access?0 -
