Evening Crafters,

I generally lurk on this section of the forum, however I'm posting as I need some advice and I know there are a lot of talented crafters around here. :D

I love this:

However I think the cost is shocking! It is £49.95 here:

Therefore plan on attempting my own project as Christmas gift for my 1 year old niece.

I live abroad and can easily source a frame, I'm looking for advice on sourcing lovely but cheap materials online and also any hints/tips from anyone who has made this sort of thing.

  • Hi Pink Lipgloss, can I suggest that you try moving this post onto either of these MSE forums, there are alot of talented crafters who "pop" onto these forums from time to time and I'm sure that someone will be able to help you, you should probably mention that it's slightly off topic - but I think that they'd be more than happy to help.

  • I would say to recycle some old clothes, or maybe pick up some pretty baby clothes at charity chop/car boot (not sure if you have any of those where you are)

Otherwise lots of online stores now sell "scrap" bags which probably cost the same as if you were buying meterage, but it gets you a nice selection of designer fabrics. I have bought from here and got some nice. largish bits in my bundles, but others in "The sewing room" were dissapointed, I suppose it is like a lucky dip.

You could also try buying a "charm pack" which is a pack of 5inch squares, most quilting shops sell these. There is a list of online stores on the Sewing room no chat thread

There are also lots of sellers on ebay and lots of curtain shops do free samples including John Lewis (who are meant to be quite generous)
