When a thread is closed - how do you know where to find the one that "replaces" it?

Options
I've just discovered a thread I was subscribed to has been closed (fair enough!) but, it was a subject matter that I was really interested in!

I have such limited time to spend on the forums, especially during the week, that I have limited time to read/catch-up.

The "tough" thread is closed (pity; but reading the last couple of pages, I do appreciate why) so, when a thread is closed ... how do we know where to find a thread of a similar vein?

Oh!! I don't mean similar as in "contentious"! :o I mean .... well ... it's flipping tough and I value the sage advice and comments that I gleen from that type of discussion.

Is there a way to close a thread and re-direct forum members to similar threads? Or, maybe switch the subscription to a pertinent one?

TIA

You'll find most of the rabble on the

"Dont mention the T word" thread

There isn't a thread of similar vein. We just have to wait and hope that we are able to have the tougher thread back.

I do miss it, the board isn't the same without lurking/posting on the tougher thread :(

I too understand the issues regarding the closure of the thread, however I miss it a great deal and feel we are all being penalised by the act of a tiny tiny minority. I feel rude intruding in the other 'no t word' thread as, though I had been following it, I didnt add anything to it. It has totally spoiled my enjoyment of the site, and now feel adrift. It is such a shame that so many wonderful supportive people in my life are now missing - by the way I do have a life beside MSE but it was important to me.

I also feel that several other posters will be struggling with getting through the troubles they are having without their virtual support network.

  • Hi im a lurker on the tough thread and its felt really strange today not being able to pop in and out and read what people are chatting about i guess the old saying you dont know what you've got till its gone comes to mind, I do hope we can have another similiar thread as i do quite miss it more than i thought i would.

Thank you, StickyNikki for the link :)

fuddle and ginnyknit: I really don't want to get into the Politics of the previous thread (mainly because I'm not au fait with the dispute between, seemingly two posters (?) - I'm sure there must be valid reasons why people feel the way they do. But, yes, it has left a gap, and clearly a very needed resource! Never under-estimate the virtues of a "virtual support network" indeed!

I wish there was a way where, when one thread is subscribed to, and subsequently closed, links to another resource of a similar nature could be automatically added to the "closure" post? I do mean "resource" and not a further avenue of dispute ;)

As it stands, it is very user-UN-friendly :( (Wow! How much power does that confir to the minority - seemingly, two posters who are at odds with one another - vs the majority who find the thread invaluable!?)

I really don't want to get into a "who's right/wrong" situation ... for me, the fact both of them are manipulating the situation for their own ends/power games/popularity contest is neither helpful or productive to the majority of users who utilise the thread for facts and info. What IS very difficult for those who want the info, but without the tensions is: can there not be a mechanism in place, so those outside of the personality clashes, whereby we are a) not dragged - unwittingly! - into something which is of no concern to us; and b) we can continue to follow valid snippets of useful information without being left adrift?

I'm here for MS advice; that is my primary focus. The "tough" threads gave me that and are one of the reasons I return. If I want tension/ego's/disagreements ... well, suffice to say I have teens for that ;)

As per squeaky's post in the last thread, and as he is not around at the moment, I am going to close this one until we get advice from the forum team.

In the meantime other people from the previous thread are posting here

    Thanks,

    Pink
