Supermarket Coin Counters

Does anyone know what denominations of coins you can put in the coin counting machines and how much commission they charge?
Do they pay out cash or just vouchers?
I'm thinking of the ones in supermarkets.

any denomination of coin, so long as its uk currency, normally about 8-10p per £ and they give you a voucher which you can redeem for cash at customer services.0

They take a big percentage though, i've read that there are some banks that have these coin counters and don't charge,
Perhaps someone here will know which ones to go to.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Why anyone would want to use one of these machines is beyond me. If I have any spare shrapnel i simply use them on the self service machines when I'm paying for my groceries. Or if I'm at Asda or tesco at the dead of the night I simply raid my piggy bank & pay for stuff all in coppers! Try it sometime :beer:0

I have over £200 in odds and sods, so not so practical to pay for my shopping with it. My bank (Nationwide) said I can only deposit 5 coin bags per day, and considering it is a 2 hour round trip to get there (rural area) it's not worth it.
If anyone knows of banks without the limit on depositing or banks with free machines to do it please let me know.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
Hi, You can put your coins in a machine that goes into your account at HSBC, no % taken, I expect the other banks do as well but dont know which ones0
-
Metro bank have free ones but given you are saying your rural I am guessing you wont be near one of their branches0

I would not bother bagging the pennies, 2p and 5p coins, I'd just take them to the supermarket machine.
I'd rather pay 7p than count 100 pennies :-)
Is there a local shop or pub who would take the coin bags off you?
They probably have the opposite problem to you of having to travel to the bank to pick up change.0 -
got to morrisons or any other supermarket with the type of self service where you drop teh coins in, and over pay for something like a 10p sweet when the stores not too busy. you get notes back as change0

Petrol stations often have coin bag scales. I work in a petrol station, and we get taxi drivers in all the time with bags of coins, so we decided to get one. It's a life-saver. So ask your local one if they'll accept coin bags, and pay for your fuel in coin bags next time around! (PS, if you're doing this, please count them out!)
The only issue with self-scan machines is that they often have quite a low capacity for coins, so if you're going to pay for £25 of shopping in coppers, you'll probably overload the machine.0
