    Hi

Unless the rules have changed since we went BR ( 3 years ago) then you will only pay a percentage of what you have left after your living expenses, things such as gym or sky TV will not be taken into allowance but you would be able to rent somewhere of your own if you wanted to. There will be a list somewhere of what is classed as acceptable expenses on here. OH has a good job and pays a set ammount to the OR every month which will finish early next year. Bear in mind that if you have had advice and they don't think you need to go BR the judge may refuse you if you choose to. I'm not trying to convince you either way but BR isn't easy and should be a last resort because once you do it there is no going back. Perhaps you need to get help in dealing with your ex before you do anything you might regret. Please don't jump into anything you might regret.
Please don't think I am interfering
    I hope I have helped a little
    Good luck

The rules changed in December 2010 so now if you have more than £20 surplus each month then you lose the lot (including the £20) to the OR. The allowances are generous though so you should still have plenty to live on.

I think the decision you need to make is whether to keep the house or not. If you let it go then you can look into debt management or resolution at that time. If you decide to keep it then you need advice on how to go about doing so, i.e. seek advice from a solicitor about getting your ex to stump up her share for the mortgage and the car loan!

The best way to find out if your expenditure would be considered reasonable is to post up an SOA for members to comment on how an OR might look at your figures.

If you move in with someone then you submit a new SOA to the OR for consideration. Obviously some expenditure will reduce (bills for instance as you'll only have to pay a proportion and not all of these) but others may increase (perhaps further to drive to work so more petrol cost).
