Best place for a loan

I'm wondering where the best place to look will be.

ME: 23
Full-time employment (as have been for about 5 years, 16 months current job though)
Modest wage £11 pre-tax

Credit:
CC £200 limit, currently £130, about 3 months old, overpayments made everything
£100 overdraft with bank: used a few times for a few weeks, had it about a year. Usually not in it though.

Conclusion:
although reliable for repaying and can afford repayings (bills circa £320/month private unfurnished with partner, as have been for 3 years) -- very few lines of credit and therefore little basis to judge me on.

I was thinking of approaching the bank, but when I applied for a CC several months back was rejected, along with capitalone for some reason (eventually got the capitalone though, think I applied for the wrong account.)

I want £5,000 over 36-48 months. Purpose: we want to re-furnish our home and buy a cheap car.

Where would the best places be to approach do you think?

Thanks in advance

    5000 is a large loan for some-one on only 11k;
a loan over 3 years will probably cost about 160-170 per month
can you afford this; are you currently saving that amount
why are you ever in your OD and why can't you clear your CC in full each month

The CC is used regularly for internet purchased, I can afford to repay it now. Savings account about £500 and current accound about £400. The OD was used when we moved house a few months ago (an expensive time with deposits, rent, moving costs ect ect), repaid next payday.

    About £800/month post-tax.

Repayments are about £160/month over 4 yrs, which I can afford. Although I only make a modest living, don't really spend a great deal so living each month is quite comfy.

Also, would it increase my chances if me and my partner applied for a joint loan? he has similar income, but several CCs and a couple of ODs (totalling 8k ish used for business) also not sure his credit rating is that great. Or would that just hinder me?

I would be surprised if anyone will give you such a large loan in relation to your income; however probably best to try your own bank if they do reasonable rates

do also bear in might the cost of running a car; tax, insurance, MOT, repairs, petrol which will eat into your spare cash

I don't understand the figures about your OH .. are you saying he owes 8,000 on an overdraft?
