Hi, I am making some hampers for people this christmas and am thinking of using shreaded paper as a bottom. What do other people use and how much (in grams) do i need per hamper- they are medium bags of hampers? I have not got a clue and am trying to buy online. Thanks everyone!

do you not have a letter shreader at home or work?? I would just use what comes out of that & then shred a couple of sheets of cheapie wrapping paper to put on top(the shiny plasticy celophane stuff that is coloured on both sides) failing that shred some colourful magazine pages0

i agree with above poster. shred some pretty paper that colour matches your hamper, or just newspaper, or wallpaper even if you get a cheap discountinued roll from B and Q etc. perhaps sheet music from a charity shop might look cool if it tied in with the theme of the hamper0

shredded paper is expensive, and you do need an incredible amount for a hamper to look luxurious (like a few pounds worth if your hampers are any size at all)
depending on what you are putting into them (doesnt work for things like fluffy socks/film themes etc, but does work for homemade edibles and soaps etc) go rustic
i use a natural straw, you get a hooooge bale that costs under £2.50
its about 2ft square, but when you open it, it goes for miles as its tightly compacted, i make around 18 hampers at christmas and get all mine from one bale and have some left over
i just made these for a friend
and it has the straw under, i dont know if it will show up very well, i'll look and see if i have a better photo
but using the straw means you can spend very little to make them look nice0 -
oh good lord, thats huge
sorry
i did resize:o0 -
it would seem i dont have a pic where you can see the straw properly
this is lemon curd, dried lemons, and lemon soaps
the straw gives a nice base so you can arrange your gifts well too0 -
thanks everyone. I have called up everyone I know to find someone with a shredder, and have "booked" a session using it on sunday. It's actually at the new Bf's family home, it will only be my second time there, and they already think Im a little strange as I turned up last time with a frozen whoopies apple pie (dated feb). Oh well, lets just add to the weird factor as I start shredding everything colourful I can find!!
Also like the straw idea. Think I will investigate that some more!

in Wilkinsons you can buy pet bedding which is just shredded paper! Its white though, so if that fits, then you could use some of that. Also, they sell straw as pet bedding. Just an idea.0
