    it sounds similar to where i used to work as we had it happen to us numerous times. I was quite lucky as i lived in walking distance from site, but others travelled upto 15 miles. Depending on the company some will pay you some hours (we used to get 2 hours pay regardless - i remember once we had been there all of 10 minutes and they sent us home) but like someone said you shouldn't be left out of pocket. Agency work very much is like it though if i'm honest, basically they pick people up and drop people off like flies. I temped at one place (well known name all over the country) for 9 months on and off and i seen a turnaround of staff about 3 times over. But if you get to know the agency person and they know over time you are reliable they will give you some of the more secure roles (as where we worked some lines you know you'd be there for the day, but others regularly had too many people sent).

    Do get your son to ask though as they should have something in place, and its not always in writing either and you don't get if you don't ask half the time
    :T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one :) :beer::beer::beer:

    Agency probably charges a 'minimum call time' (or whatever the office equivalent term is) in order to have staff sitting in the lobby waiting to be given a job. The company probably think they're doing you a favour sending you home as they have already paid for the minimum call (probably in their contract), so you should similarly submit for work done. If the agency think it is reasonable for you to travel to work and sit around to be allocated on your own time and cost, you probably have a pretty decent legal case against them, albeit for a few quid. Just submit a 2hr timesheet for the day, see if they pay it or not.
  • What is in the terms and conditions about this?
    If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

    I'd register with another agency if I were him. If you rock the boat by registering a comment with the agency he's with, you risk them not putting your son forward for jobs, but it's not worth him continuing with them if he's actually losing money.
  • It depends too which agency it is, the one I was with paid so much towards travel if you were a part of their travel scheme. So if you used public transport you got this or if you drove you got so many pennies per mile.

    Temps should have a timesheet so your son needs to put the hour on his timesheet for that day and get it signed.

    Its actually more complicated!

    He didn't actually know that the job he went for was a temporary one. He had a full interview and the employer told the agency that he was 'exactly what they were looking for'. When he gets there on the Monday to start, he is grouped in with five temps. When speaking with the others, he found out he was the only one to be interviewed!

    The manager then comes through tells them that they are all there on a temporary basis, then points to my son and says 'except for you'.

    So, we don't know what the hell is going on to be honest.

    The thing is, its not your run of the mill 'take anyone on' type of agency. There was psychometric tests, interviews, references etc and that was before they even considered putting him forward. Saying that, the agent he has been dealing with is a dizzy mare and the employer has actually told my son that agent is useless!

    Is nothing straightforward these days???
