HELP!!! Oil in Breville One Cup!

Options
Hi,

We got a breville on cup earlier this year as a wedding pressie, and we like it, though I need to fill it with a jug as it is too heavy to take to the tap.

It's like a kettle, but the element is hidden underneath the base of the bit that holds the water, and it boils just one cup at a time.

When I made my tea this morning, I filled it using the jug next to the kettle, and then when I had my tea I noticed it tasted odd. When I went to fill it a bit more later, using the same jug, I noticed that water had a film of oil on it.

So to cut a long story short, I think I have put oily water in my one cup.:eek:

As the water goes into the "hidden bit" it wouldn't be as simple as washing it out.

I know I need to run it through several times with water and something to dissolve the oil, but not sure what to use? I assume washing up liquid or stardrops would be a no-no. Don't want to use anything which would damage the element or leave a different taint!!!

What could I use?

Thanks

Hi thanks both... I rang Breville and to be honest the lady had no ideas... She just suggested I try lemon juice in water which I have but no progress as yet... I have run the water through about 12 times today but still got oil slick :(

I don't have any descaler as we live in a very soft water area so will invest in one when I next go to the shops, usually you can find them on discount as they don't get bought much here!!! :money:

    Thanks :D

Personally I wouldn't use a descaler as they are quite expensive, even when on offer, and I don't like some of the chemicals used either. I just use a cheap bottle of white vinegar to descale/clean my coffee machine and find it works great.

If it's oil you need something to emulsify it so it would need to be some soap of some kind. Just a couple of drops and some hot water and swill it around. Don't turn it on. So long as it's well rinsed afterwards, several changes of water and then a boil it should be fine.:D

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!
