Hi,
with the onset of winter again like most poeple I am having to get more oil, and see that the prices are gradually creeping back to their high levels of a few years ago.
1 just wondering how much approx do the oil distributors get say on a 500 litre fill costing £293, £50 or a lot more than that?
2 does having on as little radiators as possible help cut down on the amount of oil used?
thanks

I really would not know the profit the oil distributor would have, but I would think it would be less that the £50.00, if you turn off the radiators in the rooms you dont use, this will certainly cut down the amount of fuel you use. You could also block draughts in doors & windows & close curtains as this will all help keep the heat in the room which means you will use much less oil as less is escaping out the window. Block Chimneys if you are not using your fire & turn your thermostat down by just 1 degree as this also makes a difference to the amount of oil you use.
Hope this has been of some help to you as we all need to watch the pennies at the moment.0 -
Used to be around 8ppl but that was a long time ago.
Be careful about blocking draughts, some ventilation is required for both your health and safety.0 -

Yes this is very important also but most doors have vents above them, warm homes blocked all draughts in my home downstairs but would not block draughts in bedrooms for the safety reason.0 -

I think you'll find "most" homes do not have vents above the doors unless the developments I've worked on are unique.0 -
Sorry but I was just going by what my home has (& it was built over 20 years ago, as well as my previous home also built 20 years or more ago) also most windows have a vent at the top unless they are really old windows. Then again what would I know...0

Not that this is very relevant..sorry.I stopped using my oil a couple of years ago because it cost too much and didnt last that long.I thought i would buy an electric fire and have found that this is way more convenient for me.It has saved me heaps of money and i am much warmer in the winter.I am in control of the amount of heat and electricity i use.I can turn the fire off and on as i please thus saving cash and keeping warm when I choose. It only cost me about £89 in Argos and has 2 electric bars.I found that when i was using my oil heating that i didnt get the heat i wanted when i wanted it and couldnt turn it off and on like i can with my electric fire.Sometimes i only want to take the chill out of the room and the fire is ideal for that.To me oil is a thing of the past, and one less large bill.0
