Cheaper yes, better or anywhere near as good no. Wait for the Amazon Fire to come out if you want a cheap tablet. Anything with Android 2.2 (which is not designed for Tablets) will be OK for web browsing, but not much else.

If u can wait a few months, i would wait and see what the Fire's reviews and prices are.
  • Unless of course you flash it with Modaco's vegacomb rom! Don't have one myself, but have heard it is a very good little machine once it has been flashed.

Fire is primarily going to be tied into Amazons cloud services it's not going to be a naked Android device and as such it's going to be severely hobbled in what you can probably do with it unless you flash it of course.

If you're after a budget tablet it's one of these or a Hannspad then flash and it's as good as an ipad if you're not bothered about the whole itunes/ipad/iphone user experience and in at least one instance it's better

I'm waiting for Fire to be released but there is speculation on Amazon Uk forums that it may never be released in the UK!

    Second that :)
Easy to flash and the developers just keep improving it.
No its not an Ipad, but its a quarter of the price and does what it does well.
Bought mine a year ago from the second batch and not had a problem with it, reading ebooks , surfing watching movies etc.

Even her indoors who is usually at a loss with tech has strted doing her online banking and e mails on it.
Sure you could wait for the Fire but the Vega is here NOW.

    These sold really quickly recently.

10" tablet pc, which can (if you know what you are doing) be 'flashed' to the latest Android operating system which is designed especially for tablet PCs.

    Thanks for the link.

Is there any thread which details what to look for in a tablet and whether they might be better than a netbook for certain applications?
