My understanding of the site is that its 'advert' free, and we're not supposed to post links for personal gain except in the referrers section.

Now, of course, we all like comps in this forum, but those are Martin's rules.

Not sure I necessarily agree that he's not gaining anything. If competitions didn't benefit the companies running them (say through raising awareness, interest or goowill in their products, or building mailing lists like myoffers) they soon stop offering competitions.

The mods have obviously amended his tagline and automatically stopped the webaddress from being posted which makes me cautious as well.

The only thing I am gaining is traffic to my website to tell the truth. I don't make any real money from my site. We have adverts on there but that has gained me around $5.00 in three months.

We are providing games reviews to people. It never was and is not about making money (adverts are simply to try and help pay for the hosting).

We get free games from publishers for review purposes. Part of this deal is that once and a while a publisher will ask us to host a competition for them to give away some of their products.

From this competition and in deed my entire site I am losing out as not only does it cost me for the hosting and the like I end up paying a boat load in postage and packaging to get games to reviewers and prizes to competition winners.

In the last three months I have made $5.00 (about £7.50), but I have spent around £240 on the site. I gain nothing.

I think I will e-mail Martin personally and ask for his approval on this one. I know I am blatantly advertising my own site, but quite frankly I gain nothing from it so I don't see the harm.
