Bankruptcy and Job Seekers Allowance

My husband and I are on the verge of sending the bankruptcy forms in ! gulp!!!! but ive just had a thought, will it affect the fact that under the JSA he has to be actively seeking work..... will being a bankrupt class as him not making himself available or acceptable for some work? Should we tell the Job ctr or does it not change anything?

    Shouldn't make any difference.

A lot of people who go bankrupt are on jobseekers - losing a job is often the tipping point.

I don't think your husband is obliged to tell the JobCentre.

Strictly, going bankrupt means he may not now be suitable for some jobs in financial services.

But he is still looking for work, so I can't see a problem.

I told the jobcentreplus because it meant I couldn't work in finance (which was my job before unemployment) It didn't cause any problems at all but don't think you're obliged to tell them.
  • I didn't tell the job centre I was BR, it's none of their concern unless, as mentioned, your background is in finance / regulated selling etc.

    Good luck! x

The only problems I had from JCP and BR was the time it took the Co-op to get my new bank account open. I had a paper payment issued and had to go on weekly signing for one day as the new account details came through the following day.
JCP told me to get a Lloyds account but shut up when I told them I took £9k from them the previous week.
