Small business money owed

Hi,
The last few years I have done freelance work for a client, but payments started to be missed. I took advice from the CAB, stopped working for them and tried to arrange reasonable installments, this was almost a year ago.
I now find that earlier in the year the company which owes me money was given compulsory strike off action, which was then suspended, by a creditor, most probably HMRC. Following advice, I too, as a creditor have objected to the dissolving of the company.
My question is have the company acted illegally in continuing to trade over the past 9 months whilst going through the process of dissolution?
Any advice would be great, and thank you in advance.

No. They would only have done so if they had been in administration / liquidation. A company does not have to be penniless to dissolve - they can simply shut down.0
