I need change!

Hey guys and gals.

Just looking for some advice really and would appreciate any replies.

I work Night shifts at a local store,Usually 4-5 Nights P/W and while im very great full to have a job, after 5 years of been there ive just had enough of its repetitiveness and boredom.
Id like a change in career, I feel im capable of so much more but everywhere i look theres no just jobs and i cant ever see anything changing.

what would your advise be?

Recently i have thought about a technician sort of job,you know like for Internet service providers etc,but i hear for these jobs you go on a very long waiting list to even be considered for Training,Plus i don't have a Drivers license..i gave up on lessons at the time because of stress. :o

  • Next Step are very good for advice on careers and training - google for contact details.
  • With you working nights it gives you time during the day to re-train in a different field. It may be tiring but could be very promising. your local college's etc will do courses on many areas of work which you can enrol on.
  • And even if there is a waiting list for training places in a tech role that you want, you'll never get there if you don't bother to join the list. Presumably everyone who gets taken on has worked their way up from the bottom of the waiting list. And take up driving lessons again.

Don't be so negative. If you want things to change you have to do something to make them change. No-one is going to randomly knock at your door and say 'here, you are just the person we have been looking for to do X for us.'

It sounds as though you are stuck in a rut - easily done, I know, I've been there. But make one little effort to make one little change and you'll be surprised how quickly it can all snowball. Just shaking off your apathy makes all the difference and helps you get on with what you really want.

OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
  • Also, look into unionlearn. Previously only offered training courses to union members & families but have now opened this to anyone. A lot of IT related training and training available online through U-Net. Might fit in better with you working nights.
