Sky Scrapping HD Charges?

Just a warning to others, I had sky come and fix a problem on my box this weekend, they tried to charge me £65 to replace the box so I said no, then they tried to sign me up for HD for £6 a month but with a free box and again I said no, then they finally gave me the free box which was fitted on Sunday morning – the sky man that came though said that from November they are scrapping the sky HD charges of £10 a month though! Apparently there is a mad rush to try and get customers signed up this month to try and get some extra £££ before its free anyway. Not sure if its wholly true but just a caution to all MSE-ers out there to maybe hold fire this month as HD ‘offer’ may not be all they seem

This rumour always surfaces every so often and usually peters out into nothing. I'll be surprised if they do.0

Sky are always trying to get people to sign up to things like HD with extra charges. I phoned up for my in-laws the other week to ask about getting Sky plus for them, and the "sales person" on the line informed me that it wasn't possible to subscribe to Sky plus any more it has to be Sky plus HD which is an extra £10 a month "but the box will be free". I said this was unfair, they don't want HD but he wouldn't budge.
I then complained to Sky as I found that new customers can still get Sky Plus without HD (from their website), and they said I must have misunderstood him. I said, I didn't misunderstand him, he was clearly trying to force them into HD by refusing basic Sky plus. I assume these people are on commission therefore, so they are trying to make you pay extra for HD whether you want it or not.Mortgage to clear asap! - [STRIKE]£148,874.38 [/STRIKE]as at 1 May 2013£79,176.55 May 2018£59,516.06 July 2019November 2020 £35,914.620 -

Its normally a case that you either pay for the box (say £120), or pay £10 a month for the HD channels and get the box for free. Paying for the HD essentially spreads the cost over the year's contract interest free, but you must remember to cancel the HD element when the year is up if you don't want the service.topbargainhunter wrote: »Sky are always trying to get people to sign up to things like HD with extra charges.
