Life after bankruptcy - I feel normal again.

As some of you know myself and husband went br in March 2010 and received early discharge in January 2011. In April this year 3 kept ringing me and kept trying to get me on contract, so in the end I agreed to try for a sim only £10 contract and said that i thought highly unlikely as I was a recently discharged bankrupt and to my surprise they said Yes, so iv been running that account now since April. iv since swapped from virgin to sky, although not any cheaper just better value for money, and i dont like virgin anyway! Iv cleaned up my credit file all except HSBC have updated and iv just written to them again. And finally this morning, Vanquis have accepted me for their credit card, although an extroniate interest rate, great for an unforseen emergency, or for doing the weekly food shop on line and paying it as I order. Asda have a nasty habit of double authorising, the amount of the shop and then after if the shop amount differs due to something being unavailable then authorise this too!! So in affect leaving me unable to access approx £100 a week of our money!
These things are great achievements for me, as prior to bankruptcy was not able to access credit for some time.
Its just nice to feel normal again, and know that im now rebuilding what in 2008-2009 was a hopeless situation. I never want any loans etc again, but I am aware I do need to rebuild my credit rating as most jobs now undertake credit checks too!!

Thought I would just share.

  • A friend of mine came across the 'asda thing' recently.

As you say, it appears they sometimes authorise the bill twice over.

The correct money is eventually taken, but you do need enough slack in the account to cover the double amount for a few days.
