Old debt question

Morning all,

I'm sure this has been asked before but have tried searching and could not find a thread.

I've recently received a letter from Equidebt stating I owe Aktiv Kapital UK Ltd £2485.74. They would like me to call them to discuss, which I'm wary about as I don't want anything logged on my credit history.

I had the same letter about 1-2 years ago from another company, can't remember who. At the time I called them and they told me I owed an amount of money to a catalogue(can't remember how much). When I asked for proof they rattled off all my previous addresses I had lived at and this so called debt is from at least mid 1990's. I asked them to send me further details of the debt as I don't remember having any debt with that catalogue. The agent at the time told me that it was my debt and I should pay it, again I told them that without proof of the debt, I was not paying anything and especially as it was so along ago and as I had rights to this information. The agent said she would get further information and send to me - this I have never received until this letter.

I had lots of debt problems around 1998/1999 that I dealt with via Gregory Pennington and I paid everything I owed over a number of years and in Feb 2003 I got the all clear. I now have credit cards, a mortgage and no further problems and am very mindful of debt.

Can anybody out there tell me/help me on what I should do as I don't want this to turn into anything nasty or pay for a debt that is either paid off/very old/not mine.

Thanks in advance guys!
