general techie usage...or for more domestic chores such as checking batteries, fuses etc.

Assuming it is the same meter, here is the manual:

Which says "Continuity Mesaurement: Buzzer beeps at < 70ohms"

This model the UT33B(B for battery test mode)can test 'diodes,transistors and other semiconductor devices'. The continuity test with the buzzer is on the other models in the range UT33C/D.
