How much does it cost to put in an offer

My apologies for asking a million silly questions but I'm not sure on this whole situation.

If I see a house I like (in Scotland, offers over) and I want to get a solicitor and put in my offer, how much would this cost? ballpark figure?

Obviously houses are expensive business but I just want to see what I might have to pay out in fees and stuff just to get a chance?

When I went to see mortgage advisor I arranged a solicitor at the same time. This was before putting any offers in. He told me that their aim was to get to the point where I successfully purchased a house - if that involved putting in offers on several so be it, their conveyancing fee was the same - around £800 all in. I subsequently offered on 2, offers refused. Offered on another one, accepted but had to pull out as survey found knotweed and lenders wouldn't lend. Finally am about to complete on one next week I hope! His fee is the same. He didn't charge "per offer". Do you have a solicitor lined up?

No, nothing lined up yet, just looking about to see how I would go about getting a house.
Heck I don't even know how much of a mortgage I would get :-D
Obviously sstill need to do a lot of savingx
