Oven Gloves

I have treated myself to the Tesco pans that they have had on offer in the hope that once I get my new kitchen that I will start cooking and baking more - at the minute Hubby does the day to day cooking.
Some of the pans are the kind with two handles but at the minute I have a tea towel sized piece of material that someone who worked in a school kitchen used as an oven glove. For getting things out of the oven it appears to be quite heat resistant but I don't feel that it is very safe to use with the pans as I have a gas hob at the minute and have visions of me setting it alight.
A while ago I bought myself a bog standard single glove but lost faith in it when I burnt my hand trying to move an oven shelf.
Has anyone used the new?? silicone oven gloves that I have seen advertised and if so how heat resistant are they. Or has anyone got any recommendations of what to look for in an oven glove.

I've got two thick fabric ones that come most of the way up to my elbows. (Well actually I've got six because they were reduced to 10p each at Ikea, so spares for washing too.) They're just crocodile type ones, no thumbs, but the do the job very well and protect my arms from steam and door edges.Val.0

I generally use a tea towel :rotfl:
We have 2 sets of oven gloves. 1 set are gauntlets from Ikea, and I find them too big and I lose grip. The other set are just oven mitts from Wilkinsons and they're the right size for me. But when I've taken them off on the other side of the kitchen so they're not handy or i can't see them as my glasses are off
pmsl I grab the tea towel. :hello:

When I lived in South Africa they seem to be the only kind of saucepans available, and I found them very irritating!mavisangelica wrote: »A while ago I bought myself a bog standard single glove but lost faith in it when I burnt my hand trying to move an oven shelf.

I wanted to get some of the nomex oven gauntlets from Lakeland, but they were very expensive, and now they don't seem to do them any more. I got a pair of "Hot Gloves" from Wilkinsons, and they are, quite frankly, rubbish!
My forearms have loads of scars from burns, so I'd also love to know if the silicone ones are any good. They always look a bit clunky to me though.0 -
my favourites are two 7 inch square knitted cotton pads that i bought from ikea yonks ago. i bought a couple of the red silicone square ones in asda this week, at £1 each, for a gift. don't know how well they do yet as cheeky to try them before the recipient

Nomex is what racing drivers use as fire retardant underwear so they must be good. Shame they don't do them any more.
Next time I am in Asda I think I will try their silicon squares to see whether they are heat resistant before I go out and buy full gloves.Ditch 100 in January Challenge 100/100

I`ve got a silicone one, very disappointed as it`s not that heatproof! My old ovengloves keep getting re-instated even though they look awful now, because they WORK - I bought new a couple of times but they weren`t as good.0
