Recently quit my job, and wondering what to disclose on my CV for future applications

  • Thanks for all your help and advice everyone. Anyway, I spoke with the director of the company and I apologized for how it all ended and how I dealt with the MD, and although I didn't expect hear to back, it seemed to go well. He said to stay in touch with them, and he openly gave an offer to use him as a referee for future job applications. I wasn't going to bring that up until a later date, if things felt comfortable, so I'm very surprised and grateful they offered.

Of course I now have the tough task of getting into the situation to actually require a reference lol! So the hard work begins, and thanks to you all.
  • I've just had a thought, which isn't fully related to my original post; but I was curious to know what I should do with regard to the job centre/registration. I know I'm not entitled to jobseekers, or any other benefit as I chose to leave my previous job, but should I still sign on? Are there any benefits to it, and is it something I should be doing?

    Thanks
  • You would still be entilted to benefits (what will depend on your circumstances) but there is a period in which you don't get contribution based JSA as you left voluntarily. I don't know the exact rules but this is a link and gives a phone number you could call to find out:

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Employedorlookingforwork/DG_10018757

I would call the jobcentre and ask them what to do. Also you could ask on the benefits section as someone would be likely to know more there if no-one else knows the exact answer here but you should be able to claim after a period and I'm not sure if you still need to register now or not.
  • You should make a claim to JSA immediately. When you attend your 1st appointment you will be asked to fill out a form with information explaining why you left. Make sure you put as much info as possible and explain how it was making you ill etc. Benefit will continue to be paid until the decision makers look at the information you gave and then they will decide whether you will get a sanction on your JSA. This could be anything from 1 day to 26 weeks although the latter is unusual.
