Credit Check for Employment

Hi,

I've been offered a job interview to work as a customer service advisor for the aa and they are asking to do a credit check. My credit rating isn't great due to serveral defaults as I've only just finished university. Will this mean they won't offer me the job even if my interview goes well?

Regards

Chris

It's standard procedure in the financial sector. It depends on what the credit rating report sends back to whether it will affect your chances.

    Have you checked Experian?
  • Yeah I have checked experian and it says my credit rating is poor due to the defaults. However, I haven't had any ccj's or anything like that so i'm unsure where I stand, as with this job I won't be working in the financial sector.

    No CCJs is good.

*Tell them* about the late payments and explain why before they find out - as they will find out anyway and honesty is important. Hint: "as I have finished university" is not a reason. "My grant was late" for example, is. Look at the timings and have a think.

The AA sell loans and their insurance is on credit. So can their membership be. Are you sure you are niot working in financial services?

  • Thanks for your response. I would be taking breakdown calls from members so I wouldn't be dealing with any financial information. I previously worked for the aa in the same role before I went to university so I don't know if that would work in my favour or not.
