Meter Change Query

Had solar PV installed in April & electricity meter is running backwards.
Scottish Power are sending somebody out to change the meter for I would presume one that cannot run backwards.
Our house is empty most days so we are generating lots more electric than we are using through the day.
The solar PV system has a ' Generation Meter' fitted before the inverter.
Should they just be installing a meter that will not run backwards or something else ???
