Query regarding Barclays & CCCS DMP!

My wife has been told by her CCCS case worker that even though she owes £12K to Barclays for an overdraft and loan she can still run her Barclays bank account.

My wife is currently having her DMP set up by CCCS and when she queried about changing accounts due to the 'right to recompense' legislation the case worker advised that CCCS have an agreement in place with Barclays that means they will never take any money from a clients account to use against a defaulted account with them.

My wife is really struggling to get an account with another bank and we are both concerned that as soon as my wife's salary is credited Barclays could use this against the defaulted amount. We have clarified this a couple of times with the case worker but am just wondering if any other DFW's can advise if this is correct or not!

Cheers.

The first thing we were told by CCCS, before we had even had the telephone interview, was to set up an account with a bank where we had no debt.

Yes, she was told that and my wife advised that she had struggled to do that.

The case worker advised her not to worry as CCCS have a specific arrangement in place with Barclays that means they will not take any money.

This is the issue that I would like some clarification on.

Anyone else got any knowledge of this?

we are quite worried as you can understand......
  • Move accounts, find one that will take you! I wouldn't trust Barclays as far as I could throw them.

TBH, I have no inclination to trust any bank!!

I was more interested in finding out if anyone knew anything about this specific arrangement that CCCS claim to have.
  • Your wife needs a basic bank account to be on the safe side.

I was in a similar position where I thought no other bank would touch me, but I now know that most banks provide these basic accounts.

I applied on-line for a NatWest Step account which was up and running in a week or so.
