Very unlikely anyone will lend her money while the CCJ is on file. It will stay on her file for 6years from the date of judgement. Even after its gone if she has no credit history (ie no existing credit accounts) then its very hard for a potential lender to assess her risk. So even then she'll likely need to start with subprime credit, such as very high APR credit cards, catalogues etc.

If the CCJ was paid off in full within a month of the judgement then it should not appear on her credit files, and if it does but she can provide proof it was paid within a month then she could get the CCJ removed.

If she is struggling to free up enough money to start saving for a car then maybe suggest to her she signs up here and posts on the debt free wannabe board. The posters there should be able to help suggest ways she can save money/ get things cheaper/ where she can cut back so that she can start some proper savings towards being able to buy herself a car.

  • Thanks all. Just had another chat with her and it seems that her auntie took out the CCJ, for no rent and changing the locks. Apparently no contract was in place, but rather than contest it she just filled in the form and paid the 2 installments.

If she paid in 2 installements it most likely ran over the 30days so the CCJ will remain as satisfied.

Huge turn off for any lender, a loan will be extremely difficult and even if it is accepted, the APR will reflect the black mark.

    Looks like a non starter.

Also, a car takes ££££££££££s to run, unless you're buying a ticket from Southhampton to Aberdeen every month, a car will be hugely more expensive.

When you have a car, it's also very tempting to just drive around and waste money.

Not when you are a pensioner on a fixed amount of money per month, it's not. My bus pass is getting a thrashing at the moment.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Experian, Equifax, Callcredit.
Really not sure what that would achieve other than stating the obvious, because I'm sure she already knows her credit rating is pretty much wrecked.
Golden rule for the OP's girlfriend is: if her own bank wont lend - then it's truly a downward spiral if she goes to other lenders.
£2000 for a car that's the easy bit - what about the insurance, tax, petrol, mot and all the other horrendous incidentals that miraculously appear once you've bought an ageing car??
