Cancelling a card doesn't guarantee the company won't be able to get their money. As the agreement was set up before the card was cancelled the transactions may still be accepted by the card issuers. Their request for payment may take you over your overdraft limit and they may also charge you for failed transaction attempts.
The Visa system allows retailers to debit accounts when a card has been stopped, so don't count on payments not being taken.

There are hundreds of posts/threads on here that are full of distressed posters who have had their entire bank account drained by PDL companies where the posters have said their cards have been stolen/lost.
Yes, some people are basically full of C**P - hope you don't mind it right back at you.
