MFI vouchers - proof of identity

A word of caution to anyone intending to buy or sell MFI vouchers on EBAY etc.
We ordered a kitchen a few weeks ago from MFI and I went in yesterday to pay £1k off with MFI vouchers from Tesco. We are not married but have been living together for 25 years and both of us have a clubcard.
MFI saleswoman at till noticed 1/2 of the vouchers were in OH's name (name on order) and half in my name.
She insisted I provide evidence that I was the person named on the voucher and accepted evidence in the form of a bank card and the fact the covering letters with the vouchers showed we were at the same address.
I had arranged to buy some other MFI vouchers off a third party and intended to use these to order some worktops, so I asked whether she would accept them (asked the same question when we ordered the kitchen and was told no problem).
She was adamant they could not be used, saying it was a scam and MFI loses out as the vouchers are made void. She added this was a recent directive and that checks will now always be made that the buyer's name matches the name on the voucher.
Several salespersons overheard the conversation and expressed surprise but she said to all of them that this was a new directive they must follow.
Is this the same in all MFI's as I am about to let the seller down and I will have to pay full whack for the worktops?
