Brennan JB7 question???

As a MSE they seem like a lot of money to me.
I was thinking of buying one for birthday gift for DH.
We have loads of old vinyl LP's & 45's, thankfully no 78's!
They have not been played for over 10yrs and he won't let me throw them away
We still have the old style record stereo system, yet they still don't see the light of day.
We are both not teckkie minded, although I did buy him an ipod last Christmas, he liked that but I haven't seen that for some months either??????
Also bought earlier this year a USB turntable, after reading I could convert the vinyl to MP3 (have no idea what I'm really even talking about here), that is still boxed and never been looked into.
Now my son tells me to bypass all the things I don't catch up on and buy the Brennan. He said its like a jukebox and we've both always wanted one of those.
My questions are: Does anyone have one already that could advise me, for or against?
Why can't I find any discount codes for them?
Will it just be another 'left in the box' toy?
Part of me says go for it and learn how to use it, the rest says it'll go in the cupboard along with vinyl

I you havent used the USB turntable ( which presumably allows your vinyl to be played and saved onto your computer ) , then you are equally unlikely to use the Brennan ( which does the same sort of thing , but saves your vinyl to a dedicated music device instead of your computer )0

I've looked into these before. Try a google search to find user reviews - there are good & bad. Having said that, they do advertise a no-quiblle returns ploicy so you could at least return it if it turns out unsuitable. I've never seen discount codes. There are sometimes 2nd hand ones for sale on ebay.
As dlusman says, all the vinyl is still going to need to be transferred onto the thing.
As for no sign of the ipod, is it maybe the case that your OH just isn't listening to music nowadays?0 -
Transferring LPs is incredibly tedious.0

I have one of these and they are absolutely fantastic. My Dad has had one since they were first made and kept harping on about it. My husband talked me into getting one last Christmas. It did take a lot of convincing as they are not cheap and I am very MSE. However, I believe it is one of the best things we have bought. Hubby is great at constantly downloading new and old tracks and transferring them via USB from the computer. He then puts them either in my playlist or his. The sound quality is great. The only qualms I have with mine is that my random function doesn't seem that selective.
We have not transferred any vinyl so I don't know about that. We got one of the lowest memory ones and have thousands of songs on there without any issues. Good luck whatever you decide;)0 -
How often does your OH listen to music?
If the records don't get played on your existing stereo, if the iPod and USB turntable have gone unused, what's OH's musical motivation?
If all OH wants is a Jukebox for the physical presence of the Jukebox, the Brennan won't satisfy. 45s can be played on anything, but some folks play them on vintage jukeboxes because they like the nostalgia, the feel of them.0 -
Sounds pointless. You've alrerady got the records and you dont play them, plus he's got an ipod which he doesn't use.
Don't buy it. You'll probably get fed up trying to work out how to use it whilst also trying to transfer vinyl to digital which is as has been said, tedious.0 -
I own a brennan jb7, and bought it solely to record my vinyl’s on to it, I have been able to record over 16 vinyl’s on to it so far, It’s not that hard just, follow the guidelines in the booklet, and you should be fine, I suggest you make the purchase it worked for me so i will say go for it0

Your OH is probably time poor and that will go someway as to explaining why he doesn't listen to much music nowadays. Work, sleeping, commuting etc. You will need to think of something else to rekindle his interest.0

Well I did buy it for his b/day 9th November. I ordered the silver one, he only took it out of the box today, 1 month later, and its blue! Guess that doesn't matter very much, I should have checked it when it arrived.
I got the max storage and the speakers, now lets see............................................
