Forgive me for appearing simple- but you apply online to become a model? Doesn't this sound like just one of those 'pay us £500 for a portfolio' type places that youngsters are always being warned off in the press?
have a read of this thread for starters:

Thanks for the replys !! This is what they sent in an email its mainly what they told me on the phone !
Following on from our conversation earlier, I can confirm that we are interested in putting **** on the books.
Models Manchester is one of few agencies outside of London recommended by Alba - the modelling industry watchdog.
There is no fee to join Models Manchester and we take a commission of 20% of the value of the bookings we find for you.
To enable us to put **** forward for jobs it is important that we have good quality images that we can show to our clients. The pictures should be taken in a studio by a good, professional fashion photographer. If you do not currently have professional images it is vital that you speak to us at the agency before you book anything with a photographer so that we can check their suitability.
If you need advice on finding a good photographer below is a link to a company that we currently recommend.
http://www.zestportfolios.com
If you decide to use the Zest Portfolios, it is probably worth calling us at the agency first as we also have a small number of voucher codes where images are half price (£25).
Once you have a set of good quality images, you should contact the agency to discuss the next step.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on the number below.
Regards
Darren

Have they actually seen your daughter properly at all yet? If not then I'm still thinking this screams scam and the link posted by jhp might be worth a look. Think about it logically, if they haven't seen her how do they know it is worth their time putting her on the books, a reputable company will only take people who they can recommend and who reflect well on them- not people who email in and say they want to be a model.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi. Read this thread please
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3483653=
Your daughter is 15, that means she would have to have a guardian or parent with her at all times. Are you willing to give up your time to do this? Many girls don't actually want to become models, they just want to impress their friends.
Find your local camera club and contact them. They might run portrait or fashion sessions for the members and your Daughter could get some free pictures and a taster of what it's like. Won't cost you anything and dealing with a reputable local club is probably the easiest and safest way to start.0 -

hi, i have also been speaking to models manchester and they have stated they need 5 pictures in order to have my child on there books, my only concern is that they have stated they want us to use zest photographers in manchester as me sending in 5 pictures of my own wont do for some reason?
it sounds like a scam they are both trying to pull but wanted to know if your daughter heard back from them after giving her own pics over?
thanks0 -
I am due to take my son to Zest on Sunday.
This was via Models Manchester.
I spoke with Dan I think it was.
MM advised they don't charge anything for registering (fair enough)
He told me they contact about 5 - 10% of people that are passed on to them (no idea if this is true)
They use Zest because they are ALBA recommended (appears to be true, ABLA's website has Zest as a photography company used for competitions)
They only get money if models taken on get work (might be true, might be an outright load of tosh)
They only take professional shots because this is what their clients will want to see (no idea on this one)
I tried negotiating to swap fee to zest for them getting 10 times in commission, not interested, majority of kids or parents don't follow through so not doing this.
They had limited companies, were dissolved, this was my biggest concern, he advised they tried the limited company route and were stung with accountancy/other costs so dissolved them.
They are insisting on meeting my son at the photo shoot.
I am being charged £75 for the shoot, from this MM allegedly get their photo's and I get to take 1 home.
I have not seen anywhere beyond stories of a talent scout spotting someone in the street that you would get "into" modelling for free.
I am figuring, at worst this will be 5/6 hours out of me and my sons lives, cost £75 and I get a decent portrait of him.
Does anyone have anything concrete one way or the other to suggest that Zest or Models Manchester are honest or lying toe-rags?A+L Loan £168 Hitachi Loan £0 Bank of dad £19,664
