  • Katieowl this is a lovely thread.

I started off with a long rambling post as to why I am as frugal as am and half way through it thought you know the circumstances that brought me to the place I am today do not really matter. What matters is that we have a home, we are warm (well sometimes, if the kids put proper clothes on not summer ones ;) ) and we always have good nourishing HM food on the table :).
I am enjoying being frugal and I am teaching my two daughters some valuable life lessons at the same time. OH seems to find it a difficult lifestyle choice at times but fully understands the reasons behind them.
I am sure that one of the reasons I enjoy all of the home cooking, veg growing and foraging is because I was brought up with it. Mum had to be very frugal but at the time I did not realise this as we were always well fed, clothed and as warm as you could be in a house with 1 coal fire. As kids we were aware that money was tight but we were happy and loved. I know my kids are the same :).
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

    I agree, a lovely thread.
We pay so much atention to the 'how?' of moneysaving that we sometimes lose sight of the 'why?', and it's good to remind ourselves from time to time.
I know that for many it's not a matter of choice, at least at the beginning, but it seems as though it's a lifestyle which often leads to a greater appreciation of the true value of things that matter.
DH and I live frugally for many reasons, but the main one is not having to work full time, ( I work 2 days a week and DH works 4), which means we can enjoy our home and garden, spend time with the grandchildren and caring for my old mother so that she can stay in her own home.
For us it's become a challenge to see how well we can live on how little money and we love it when we get a really good bargain!
We wouldn't change our lifestyle even if we won the lottery ( not likely as we don't buy tickets - why would we?)
