My 2 adore their build a bear teddies
. Is it a pettiskirt you got her? I made one of these for DD earlier in the year and it took me a week! It's easy enough with shirring elastic. I got the chiffon from fabricland and just tore it into the strips if that helps. There is a kind of tutorial on the martha stewart website HTH's (and that I haven't rambled way clear of the type of skirt you're going to make
). OP, i am exactly the same as you, i used to do this alot when mine were younger, they would request something fairly modest, but i always felt as if that wasn't enough so would end up going out and spending loads on crappy plastic toys because i felt i should do, and sure enough when my kids got their gifts they wasn't interested in the extra gifts i had got them so seldom got played with and thus ended up being a waste of money! My advice is stick to the build a bear that is more than enough and make lovely gifts, (my girls all have one and the adore them!) she is only 5 so she wont no any different.
I know what your saying though, my oldest daughter who is nearly 9 has very expensive taste and her xmas list is looking bloody expensive, yet my other 2 girls don't want much at all and i feel like i should be spending the same amount on them but hey its what they have asked for and just because it isn't as expensive doesnt mean it won't be just as much appreciated as the expensive stuff!Raven. :grinheart:grinheart:grinheart0 -
Mine get £50 for birthdays and £100 for Christmas. They all know the limit and if they want anything more expensive I ask relatives and friends who always ask what to get them, for the money and then I can buy what they want. Everyones a winner!:j

If you think the bear alone isnt a big enough gift why dont you get her a build a bear voucher while your there so she can go back another day and chose another outfit, itll be a surprise as she wont be expecting anything more than what she picked the day before. or pick up some accessories to go with the bear and what shes chosen again distract her or get the assistants to distract her or help you so then she can open those and theyll be a surprise.
If you buy the sylvanian families house I would say youll be posting on here how you bought her it and shes never used it or youll be selling it on ebay as she didnt ask for it...Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together0 -
She has said what she wants!
Are you wanting to spend more to satisfy her or yourself?
She will love her bear!:snow_grin"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow........":snow_grin0 -

Aww thanks - It is exactly what she wants - I am already making her some stuff (and traingin for a 10k) so don't really have time to make her the pettiskirt - I got one on ebay for which I am happy with and am making a circle skirt to go over it (but she can also wear them sperately too). Hope she likes me kniok off Boden applique t shirts!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

To be honest, if I'd known what they were called before I made one, I would have bought her one on-line! Her friend had one and she kept asking for one all the time. Eventually, I found a tutorial for how to make one so decided she could have one. Didn't realise it would be so hard though!

I think we've all been there, especially with the first child and it's far too easy to fall into the trap of buying more and more then feeling guilty because you can't keep it up later.
She'll be made up with her bear and the fact she is going choosing it all herself will make it even more special.
Christmas is just around the corner too, if you really want to get her the Sylvanian families thing I'd leave it till then but don't just buy it because you think you should.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140
