I have seen various reports that free solar power is available in the mainland and just wondered if anyone knows if it is over here too!
I know the NI energy site goes into detail about it but nothing is mentioned about costs.
We get the sun on our south facing house all day when its out and we have had no central heating on since the summer in April!! It would be good to go one step further and harness the power and save more money but we don't have any thing to pay for it unfortunatly

No chance. It's worth noting England's free solar pannels is ending.0

I know I saw it on the main page, its what made me wonder, If i had the money I'd install one to reap the benefits, only I don't wish to remain in my house that long to see them...
If the government are pushing for more greener sources they should make the trouble to help people who want to.
I saw a clip where one woman had her's installed for free but her neighbours electricity went up to "pay for it" to encourage more to get it for free, so why they don't is beyond belief, if they have the right facing roof that is...0 -

I'd personally rather my electricity payment subsidised upgrading infrastructure rather than people who happen to have a south facing roof. Least with the infrastructure we can all benefit.0 -

Small scale production pays because of subsidy, but as fuel costs increase so also does the viability.
Rather than 50 people investing £10,000 each I would rather they formed a local business or COOP and invested £500,000 and installed more cost effective schemes. That said the day that many will be able to produce all your heat and power at home is coming and the technology is improving and costs are dropping.[STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0 -
Anyone with a small to medium sized business of their own or indeed that they work for are entitled to apply for an interest free loan from the Carbon Trust - there are stringent conditions to be met but simple projects on lighting and heating can drastically reduce energy bills (and therefore Carbon emmissions)
