Mystery Shop Disaster!!

Hi Everyone

I was so excited today as I had planned to do my first ever mystery shop. I thought I had taken every precaution to ensure that it would go ok.... you know reading the brief numerous times, ringing the store to check that they will be open driving 20 miles to the local town.

Only to find the shop shut due to staffing issues.

I would like some advice please. Will this affect me getting future mystery shopping briefs and any ideas of how the company will react.

Not sure if this is in the right section but I am only doing the mystery shopping as part of being a DFW...

  • I have never experienced this myself, but you can't be blamed for the shop being shut. I would e-mail them or call them and explain and I am sure they have had experience of this before.

  • If the shop was shut when it should be open, you should email the MS company urgently to let them know (although they probably won't be open today).

YOU SHOULD GET PAID! - and in fact this feedback will be incredibly useful to the company. You've done a really good mystery shop, there :D

Ditto. Call them or email them tomorrow and let them know what happened. I did a MS for a building society re: mortgage application, turned up as I was supposed to. They took my details and said someone would call me back. They didn't. I got paid and they fed back that it is useful as issues such as these will be fed back to the company/ customer to improve staff training etc etc.

Can't see why you wouldn't get paid.
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
  • thanks for the advice everyone!!

I have sent an email off to the support desk and will submit the form as requested if I had managed to complete the visit.

We shall wait to see their response.

I have had this happen to me twice- a post office that was closed due to lack of power and a petrol station being refurbished. This was never a problem with the companies and sometimes you can get travel reimbursed.

  • I had a MS assignment to due on a bank but it had to be done on a Saturday or Sunday.........only when I got there, the branch wasn't open on either day!

I emailed the MS Company concerned and still got paid.

I did keep my parking ticket just in case but had no problems.

It's just one of those things. If you have turned up in the hours stated in the brief, and it was shut due to circumstances beyond your control, you should get paid.

The same has happened to me when the place was closed for refurbishments and I still got paid.
Here I go again on my own....

    Hope you get paid OK.

I tried searching, but there deosn't seem to be any mystery shopping threads in here listing these sites, please correct me if I am wrong.
