Hi there
We're due to get married in August 2012 and are having a barn wedding. We're providing wine for the tables and champagne for the toasts etc, but are requesting our guests provide their own alcohol for the rest of the day. (true mse style)
We are also going to have 2 fields for camping on the night before and on wedding night and will be looking for a contribution of £10 per tent
Is there anyone out there who can help us put a poem or something together for the invites to put the obove politely
Thanks

I'm not sure on a poem but on your invitation I would just say that drinks for the toast will be provided, please feel free to bring your own bottle as no bar service is available.
For the tent option, I would just add should you wish to stay in a tent on the field the cost of this is £10.00 per tent.
I don't think you need a poem, you are just giving them the facts of the invitation.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
How about:
As the barn's not got a bar,
A quick note on the booze:
We'll give you a couple of drinks with dinner,
But the rest is up to you.
If you bring plenty and get a bit sloshed
While busy celebrating our marriage
It will cost you a tenner to pitch a tent
And save you hailing a carriage.
I kinda hate all wedding poems, though.
(ironic, given that I gave my Mrs a 60 verse poem as wedding gift
) 0 -
Not a bad poem Idiophreak, but I'd go with 74jax & stick with something short and sweet - poems might "look nice" but sometimes the message is unclear when you try to tenuously rhyme things.
I'm not sure I uderstand the tent charge though - is there a fee that you need to pay for campers, or are you just trying to make a bit of money back?0 -

We wanna be tight on our wedding night
But we dont have no money and dont wanna fight
You are more than welcome to stay in the field
Please watch out for farmer Devield
It will cost you a tenner for the night
We hope you do not have a fright
We will all celebrate with a wee toast
At the end of the night it will be a spit roast0 -

I think it will be a campsite and that's the charge for a tent.
it might be an idea though to include some alternatives as not everyone will want to camp. If it is in the middle of nowhere maybe say you can pitch a tent for £10.00 or there's a premier inn up the road etc.
I don't think it warrants a poem.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I love the idea and the romance of all your guests sharing the night before the wedding in tents...but I have to say I think if it were me I would be checking into the travelodge or something similar....I'm afraid my heels would get stuck in the mud and there wouldn't be anywhere to plug in my hairdryer!....all things I would need to consider when sprucing myself up to attend a wedding....
...and then there would also be the great british simertime and weather to consider....
I wouldn't have a problem with the BYO booze...I think its a great idea...but as others have said I think just state it on the invites with the other info...it doesn't need to be concealed in a poem.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

its in barns with loads of hardstanding around it at the side of a lake https://www.gwynant.com
The camping is optional and we will prob arrange a minibus/coach for those who wish, but as my fiancee's family are from 4hrs away we will give them the option of camping and we will also list local hotels on the route of the minibus/coach
And ask them to respond on the invitation if they need coach or camping0 -

I don't think a poem is needed for this. Sounds lovely.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Poems too confusing!
I'd just put on the invite "more info on accomodation and booze on our website" then set up a wedding website explaining it. Or, I've had invites before that come with a separate folded A4 sheet with maps, hotels, details about the night before etc. That way it's not taking up room on the pretty invite!
Plus, I'd be telling everyone in person/over the phone/asking Mum to make sure Aunty Edna understands etc etc
Oh - and it sounds awesome, so if you need any more guests, I'll come along!Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93
