Will GROUPON implode?

Lately the French group discount buying promotor GROUPON has been critizised for the high fees it is charging restaurants and other businesses running promotions.

What do you think of GROUPON? Is it the future of discount shopping or will it implode eventually?

I've had a couple of good deals on Groupon (driving lessons for daughter and annual service for car) but some of the offers seem suspect - very high rrps quoted on some electronics and cheap short breaks abroad which don't include flights etc. But the principle is fine as long as you remain a canny shopper. Obviously the business hopes to woo you with an intro and win you back for more...fair enough all round.

Most of the offers don't interest me, esp the endless beauty ones, and you do have to maintain the discipline not to buy thing just becuase they are a good deal but becuase you want/need them!

Can't see why it shouldn't continue if it works for bsuinesses and consumers.
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!
  • I think groupon is over-hyped.

I had a great deal recently on something I wanted to do anyway and was impressed with the price and the speed and ease of usIng the website.
