debt collectors threatening court

Daniels Silverman Commercial Debt Recovery and Investigations, sent a demand for £900. I sent back a recorded delivery letter asking for evidence of debt and they've sent a letter back quoting an email they sent saying that money from an ex employer wasn't paid in. They also have added over £200 in fees. The money was left in a cupboard for them and not taken away from the site. They say that unless proof is given that money was paid in then next stop is legal action.
Surely this is an accusation of theft and the police should be involved, or should I just ignore them and wait for a court summons, or dispute the debt? any help appreciated. Daniel Silverman letters are not sent recorded delivery but come through the normal mail.

Dont understand this. There is a debt for £700 + £200 fees. The debt is from an employer ??? were you the employer ??? What money was left for who? in a cupboard ??????

You need to explain this properly.

I think I have it. You mean you employed someone to do some work, and left the payment in a cupboard ?? and there claiming they never had the money?

Honestly, if they have a written agreement from you to pay a specific amount, and you didnt pay them via a bank, or got a receipt from them you may be stuffed. Did they carry out the work? thats the only thing I can think - dispute it on the basis the work was never carried out which they will have to prove was. Im guessing at the last bit mind.

You'll have to prove they received their money.

"I left it in the cupboard" isn't gonna cut it, I don't think lol

My son was working for a company, and left the money collected from customers on site when they claim it should have been paid into a bank. They refused to pay wages so he never went back. Now this demand for money, from a debt collector, which they say should have been paid into their bank.

Woah I would be careful here, I'm no expert but reading between the lines, I can see some people thinking awful things here. Indeed theft is the first thing that sprang into my mind.

Money vanishing, being left in cupboards, collecting cash for jobs etc

Good luck but I would imagine this will not be easy to prove.

Did your son tell them where the money was at the time?

    Can he prove that?

Is leaving money in a cupboard the normal process?

    Can he prove that?

If they were just left in a cupboard they've probably gone walkabout. Would you be happy if your employer just left your wages in a cupboard?

Sorry, but it's not looking good.
